What is demand planning in manufacturing?
Demand planning is the process of forecasting future customer demand and translating it into a production, procurement and inventory plan. In manufacturing it only works when the forecast respects real bill-of-materials, routing and work-center capacity rather than assuming infinite supply.
How does AI improve demand forecasting accuracy?
Machine learning reads far more history and many more signals than a moving average: order patterns, promotions, seasonality, supplier lead-time behaviour and MES downtime. ExlAthena then scores the confidence of each forecast so planners know where to intervene.
What is the difference between demand planning and demand forecasting?
Forecasting predicts what customers will buy. Demand planning decides what the business will do about it across supply, capacity and inventory. A forecast becomes a plan only when it is constrained by what the plants and suppliers can actually deliver.
